GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – Brothers Miguel and Edgar Santizo scored one goal each as Glucosoral posted a 5-1 win over Habana on Friday to finish first in Group A in the 2014 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship.
In a match at the Domo Polideportivo featuring two sides that had already earned semifinal berths, the Guatemalans jumped ahead 4-0 before halftime. Miguel Santizo made it 2-0 in the ninth minute, while Edgar added to the advantage 45 seconds later.
"We are pleased to achieve the goal we wanted," said Edgar Santizo. "We were affected by their pressure, but we eventually learned to solve the situation.”
After an own-goal by Daniel Hernandez at the 29-minute mark gave Glucosoral a 5-0 lead, Luis Portal netted with 44 seconds left on the clock for Habana’s only tally.
As the group winner, Glucosoral (2-0-0, 6 points) will face Sidekicks of Mexico in one semifinal and Habana will meet Costa Rica’s Borussia in the other.
"We will battle against Borussia in order to meet Glucosoral again in the final,” commented Portal.
